The following conditions can make you more susceptible to GERD:
1. Obesity
2. Stomach bloating that extends above the diaphragm (hiatal hernia)
3. Pregnancy
4. diseases of the connective tissue, like scleroderma
5. The stomach empties more slowly as in constipation
The following factors can make acid reflux worse:
1. Smoking
2. consuming a lot of food or doing so after midnight
3. Eating specific foods, such as sugary food, fried or fatty foods, which act as triggers
4. consuming specific liquids, such as alcohol or coffee
5. taking specific prescription drugs, like aspirin
6. Etc. Etc
