My sister 34 years is suffering from lungs cancer stage 4 with bone metastasis.She is having back pain with pleural effusion.After tapping we had pet scan it is showing moderate effusion only.Now She is under chemo therapy but she has s having severe back pain. After how many cycles back pain can be reduced?. We did biopsy test..it is showing Alk negative.Waiting for the results of ros1 egfr.Please suggest whether it can be controlled for some period if we have treatment or not.

Radiation therapy is an effective therapy to releive pain in most of bony metastasis and gv quick releif. It also prevent further damage and help in averting paralysis and vertebral fracture, consider radiation therapy on urgent basis

Radiation provides durable pain relief, your oncologist will also consider giving bone strengthening injections too (bisphosphonates/danosumab). Duration of radiation in this setting is usually between 1-2 weeks (5-10 sittings).
