Left leg ankle swelling

My wife had swelling near ankle on left leg. This was on 13th December 2017. We consulted a doctor and as per prescription she took medicines. But till today she is experiencing pain though there is almost no swelling now. We also visited another doctor to confirm and he suggested a pain killer. I would like to know how to get rid of this. It seems to be a ligament injury and not a fracture as per doctors.

Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment where a limb or the entire body is immersed in warm water followed by the immediate immersion of the limb or body in ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation. Wall calf stretch • Stand about two feet away from a wall. Place the ball of your right foot against the wall while your heel remains on the ground. Slowly and gently lean into the wall while keeping your knee straight. Hold this for 5 seconds. Repeat 10 times twice a day.
