Knee Replacement Surgery
My mother underwent a knee replacement surgery in year 2011 from Amritsar (our hometown). The surgery was a disaster as the stitches opened just 2 days after the operation resulting in high bleeding and infection.
With medication, the wound healed somehow, however, my mother could never walk after words and she is still on bed completely dependent on others for even for her basic daily needs.
I now reside in Delhi and I want to have my mother another surgery for same knee replacement done. Please advise if it is advisable to have second surgery as first one was a complete failure
Further, what are the success rate of knee replacement surgery?
Will my mother be able to stand and walk on her own ever?
Avoid sitting Cross legged.
Avoid Squatting-
Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will
help relieve some pain.
Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.
Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day.
Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area
Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

We believe what ever has happened is a mishap with due respect to your concern plz get it assessd once with some competent surgeon followed by preoperative preperation like physiotherapy for atleast 15-20 days as she is not so active for two years which any successfull and smart surgeon would reccomend before undertaking her for surgery . Provided there is no comorbidity she can absolutely walk after post op rehabilitation but of course physiotherapy gone to play much critical role.

She can. But do visit a reputed knee replacement surgeon who have good volume of revision surgeries. The expected line of management will include some x rays , blood tests and scans to see present condition and to rule out infection. Then depending upon the presentation further will be planned

Yes she can have second surgery, if she needs it. She needs to be seen by an arthroplasty orthopaedic surgeon, who has interest in revision knee replacement surgery. The type of surgery (1 stage or 2 stage) depends on wether her initial knee replacement was infected or not. You need a doctor with good experience.
