The removal of screws depends on whether there is any sub clinical infection. That can be detected by doing ESR and
CRP tests. Once infection is ruled out, the screws can be removed during the total knee replacement surgery. If there is any suspected infection, it is always best to remove the screws first, treat the infection for 3-6 weeks, repeat the ESR and CRP and then plan for Total knee replacement. In the presence of infection, Total knee replacement will not be done by the surgeon
