K Wire removal on Wrist

2020-04-02 04:36:54
I had a k wire fixation on 29th feb and it's close to 32 days now. Recently I started sensing pricking pain during hand movements and feel like someone holding my wrist tight during the morning when I wake up.  I wanted to know, are the sensations are normal?  is it good to remove the plaster casting and kwire pins ? Attaching my recent xray scans.

Hi! X ray seems to be good. You can get the K wires removed after 6 wks and get a repeat X ray at 6 wks. You can mobilize your wrist after that, depending on the X ray. For pricking sensation, you might need some nerve relaxant medication.
Next Steps
Go, consult your treating surgeon at once.

It may be normal or mild infection around wires, or plaster loose. You can remove the plaster now if it is infected or after a week. Consult orthopaedic dr near you.

Hi, I usually start movements by 3 weeks in a stable fracture. However, your doctor would be the best person to decide on it.
