2026-07-07 06:40:02
Hello, Recently i lost 8 kgs weight through gym in 3 months. I was experiencing a lot more hairfall and widening of hairline at front while combing. So got the tests done. Hb was : 11.1 Rbc count : 3.62 Serum iron : 38 UIBC: 260.05 TIBC : 298 Transferrin : 208.63 Iron saturation % : 12.83 Ferritin : 22.4 Vitamin D3 : 67 B12 : 202 What should I do? Is the hairfall because of iron or the weight loss?

The hairloss could be due to combination of reasons. Weight-loss and low ferritin can be a contributory factor. I would like to evaluate you clinically and  examine with trichoscopy for treatment guidance. Connect with us for an appointment.

Your results are most consistent with iron deficiency with mild anemia, along with borderline low vitamin B12. Both can contribute to diffuse hair shedding. In addition, rapid weight loss (8 kg in 3 months) can trigger telogen effluvium, a temporary form of hair loss that typically begins 2–3 months after significant weight loss or dietary changes. Therefore, your hair loss is likely multifactorial, with both iron deficiency and recent weight loss playing important roles.
Next Steps
A) Consult your physician to identify the cause of iron deficiency including but not limited to heavy menstrual bleeding, inadequate dietary intake, or gastrointestinal blood loss B) Based in the evaluation & results you might need to started on iron and vitamin B12 supplementation C) Ensure your diet contains adequate protein and iron-rich foods, and repeat blood tests after 8–12 weeks to assess response.
Health Tips
A) Avoid further rapid weight loss or crash diets. B) Hair regrowth usually takes 3–6 months after correcting nutritional deficiencies. C) If hair loss continues despite treatment or becomes patchy, consult a dermatologist for further evaluation.
