Patient had rectal cancer mostly in upper rectum and had 1st chemo-radiation and 2 subsequent chemo cycles. Then got operated after 2 months of radiation completion, where cancerous part was removed, anastomosis done, ileostomy done. Orally juice, coconut water, ORS were given for 2-3 days but later ileus got set in and patient was throwing up any oral intake. It has been 13 days after operation but ileus is not recovering. Surgeon initially said ileus is common and may recover in 2-3days but now he says initial radiation may be delaying ileus recovery. TPN they started now,that also is causing some complications like irregular heartbeat,fever for which they are treating symptomatically. For ileus recovery they hv put ryles tube and giving perinorm etc My questions are: How to treat ileus here , when will it recover? And was doing surgery first instead of radiation a better option here? And radiation was not needed at all? We are loosing hope of recovery day-by-day due to this surgery
