Yes, this can definitely be improved. Sweating a lot while eating (gustatory sweating) along with excessive sweating on walking or in warm weather usually points to primary hyperhidrosis, which is an overactive sympathetic sweat response - it is not dangerous but is treatable. Before treating it I would like to rule out secondary causes, so please get a TSH (thyroid), fasting and post-meal blood sugar with HbA1c, haemoglobin and a vitamin D level; in some people an overactive thyroid or early diabetes is the reason. Treatment options in order: start with a 10-20 percent aluminium chloride hexahydrate antiperspirant applied at night to the affected areas (underarms, palms, face) and washed off in the morning - this alone helps many people. Wear loose cotton clothes, avoid very hot, spicy food, tea/coffee and alcohol which are strong triggers, and keep well hydrated. If that is not enough, an oral anticholinergic such as oxybutynin can be prescribed in a low dose and slowly adjusted by your doctor, or a topical glycopyrronium cloth can be used for facial sweating. For stubborn underarm or palm sweating, botulinum toxin injections give 6-9 months of relief and iontophoresis works well for palms - both are done by a dermatologist. Please get evaluated sooner if the sweating is mainly at night, or comes with weight loss, fever, palpitations, tremors or lumps in the neck, as those need a different work-up. Do consult me on Practo or come to Synergy Multispeciality Hospital, Miraj with your reports and we can plan this properly.

For an adult with new-onset profuse sweating while eating, I would consider: BP and pulse Fasting glucose + HbA1cTSH and free T4 CBC Review of all medications Neurological examination for peripheral/autonomic neuropathy If episodes are associated with symptoms of hypoglycaemia: capillary glucose during the episode The distribution of sweating is particularly useful diagnostically. If you tell me where exactly you sweat (face/head/chest/full body), whether it is one-sided or bilateral, whether it occurs with every meal or only spicy/hot food, and whether there is diabetes or previous parotid/neck surgery, I can narrow down the most likely diagnosis and treatment.

As per your symptoms it is probably Gustatory Hyperhidrosis…which is trigger during eating ….which may be due to hyperthyroidism/diabetes/certain medication.

What other symptoms are present along with the sweating ? Is sweating present all over the face or involve either side ? Excessive sweating is due to sympathetic nervous system overactivity. Get Thyroid profile tested first , to rule out Hyperthyroidism , and also there are various causes for gustatory sweating (sweating present during eating) , fir example diabetes , frey's syndrome. Please visit Neurologistbfor proper evaluation for the cause.
