I am getting hiccups after taking food and lasting for hours and having some vomit sensation what to do

Quite likely from a Hiatus Hernia, which irritates the diaphragm causing hiccups. Take regular Gaviscon liquid and Omeprazole 20mg for 2 week course and should settle. If it doesn’t, need Endoscopy. All the best. WWW.JGSR-HEALTH-EDUCATION.IN

Hiccups after food lasting for hours with a vomiting sensation most commonly suggests: ➡️ Gastric irritation / acidity (GERD) ➡️ Gastric distension (overeating, gas formation) ➡️ Mild reflux irritating the diaphragm Mechanism: After eating, stomach stretches → acid reflux or irritation stimulates the diaphragm → persistent hiccups. Red flags (which you did NOT mention but must watch for): • Severe abdominal pain • Repeated vomiting • Weight loss • Difficulty swallowing If hiccups occur specifically after meals and are associated with nausea, this is usually a reflux-related issue, not something serious.
Next Steps
✔ Eat smaller meals ✔ Avoid lying down for 2–3 hours after food ✔ Start a proton pump inhibitor (e.g., Pantoprazole before breakfast for 10–14 days) ✔ Avoid spicy, oily, acidic foods ✔ Reduce tea/coffee If symptoms persist beyond 2 weeks: • Consider Upper GI endoscopy • Test for H. pylori • Evaluate for gallbladder issues if right upper pain present If hiccups last >48 hours continuously → medical review required.
Health Tips
✔ Eat slowly, chew properly ✔ Avoid carbonated drinks ✔ Warm water after meals ✔ Elevate head end while sleeping ✔ Manage stress (stress worsens reflux) Most post-meal hiccups are reflux-related and improve with acid control and meal timing correction. If this is happening daily or severely affecting you, I recommend booking an online consultation so we can assess your full symptom pattern and start the right treatment early before it progresses to chronic GERD.

This is likely due to acidity or stomach irritation. It is common and usually settles. Take small frequent meals, avoid spicy/oily food, sip water slowly. You can take an antacid. If hiccups last more than 1–2 days or severe vomiting happens, seek care. Please consult me for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Dear Patient, Getting hiccups after food along with a vomiting sensation is commonly related to acidity, gastric irritation, or reflux (GERD). It can also happen if you eat quickly, overeat, or take very spicy/oily food. What you can do: • Eat slowly and in small portions • Avoid very spicy, oily, and fried foods • Do not lie down immediately after eating (wait at least 2–3 hours) • Drink a few sips of cold water or hold breath for a few seconds during hiccups • You may take an antacid or acidity medicine (like pantoprazole before breakfast) for a few days Most cases improve with acidity control and diet changes. If symptoms continue, evaluation for reflux or gastritis text me on practo
