Having Diarrhea with Fever last night

2026-09-02 07:06:48
I have been having diarrhea (very watery stool,) since yesterday afternoon with fever, body pains, and a severe headache when it was midnight. I brought some Electrolytes (prolyte and electral) to mitigate the water loss in my body. I was going to toilet every 20 min last night but now it is less frequent and takes 1 to 3 hrs to poop again once I pooped. Fever is gone now. Took CALPOL for head ache at 11:50am and that is also gone The poop is still liquidy and looks more like brown water Should I get a doctor appointment. And what can I eat now. Wasn't able to sleep last night due to this ordeal but had a 7 hr nap after 5am (after I get my electrolytes. My back still hurts.

your clinical picture aligns with acute infectious gastroenteritis (food poisoning or viral/bacterial gut infection). The reduction in stool frequency and resolution of fever indicate positive early stabilization, but the presence of persistent liquid watery stool requires continued hydration to prevent delayed electrolyte collapse. However, for a proper diagnosis and to evaluate whether targeted antimicrobials or gut motility stabilizers are needed, a clinical review is recommended. The severe back ache and body pains you feel are common systemic responses to immune cytokine activation during acute infection, compounded by electrolyte shifts and physical strain from frequent bowel movements.
Next Steps
Drink oral rehydration solution (ORS) continuously after every loose bowel movement to replace lost sodium, potassium, and water, sipping slowly to avoid triggering nausea. Monitor for Gastrointestinal Red Flags: Watch closely over the next 24 hours for signs requiring an immediate clinical evaluation, such as visible blood or mucus in the stool, recurrence of high fever, persistent vomiting preventing oral fluid intake, severe abdominal cramping, or reduced urine output.

This is acute gastroenteritis, most likely viral or food-borne, and the fact that stools are already less frequent and fever has settled means you are turning the corner. You handled it right with ORS. No antibiotic is needed for watery stools without blood. Keep sipping ORS after every loose stool, eat curd rice, bananas, khichdi, toast and coconut water, and skip milk, oily and spicy food for 3 days. Zinc 20 mg daily for a week shortens the illness and paracetamol is fine for the body ache.
Next Steps
ORS after each stool, zinc for 7 days, bland diet, no antibiotics on your own. Go to a hospital the same day if you see blood in stool, vomiting that stops you drinking, giddiness on standing, very little urine, or fever above 102 returning. If stools are still watery after 3 days, book a consult with me and we will do a stool test and treat accordingly.

You are already improving: fever and headache have settled and stools are less frequent. Continue ORS / Electral after each loose stool. Eat banana, curd, rice, toast, boiled potato. Avoid spicy food, milk, junk food. See a doctor today if stools remain very frequent, there is blood, repeated vomiting, dizziness, or you cannot drink. No antibiotic unless examined. Back pain can be from dehydration and straining; keep fluids.
