Managing gestational
diabetes through diet is important to control blood
sugar levels and ensure the health of both mother and baby. Here are some steps you can include in your routine:
-Eat small, regular meals as this helps avoid blood sugar spikes and supports steady metabolism.
-You can also add soaked methi seeds water 10 minutes before your meals to help manage blood sugar levels.
-Balance your meals with complex carbohydrates (whole grains, millets, oats), lean proteins (eggs, pulses, low-fat dairy), and healthy fats (nuts, seeds).
-Avoid fruits like chickoo, mango, jackfruit, custard apple and vegetables like potato or sweet potato. Consume fruits like apple, pear or guava.
-Avoid foods high in refined sugars and unhealthy fats, such as packaged fruit juices, processed snacks, deep-fried foods (samosas, pakoras), sugary desserts, and artificial sweeteners.
-Limit white rice (try brown rice), white bread, and sweets as they can cause blood sugar spikes.
-Regular physical activity for at least 30 - 45 minutes like brisk walking can also help achieve your health goals better. (Unless physical activity is restricted by healthcare professional)
