Thank you for sharing this — your concern is completely valid, and it's good that you're being cautious. Here's the clear medical perspective: Even if there’s no visible wound, rabies virus can transmit through saliva contact with skin — especially if: There's any micro-abrasion (not visible) The dog is unvaccinated or stray You're not sure if the dog's behavior was normal > WHO classifies this as Category II exposure: 👉 Contact with a suspected rabid animal with minor scratches or nibbles on intact skin — vaccination recommended.
Next Steps
✅ What You Should Do Now: 1. Start Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) — ESSEN schedule: Day 0, 3, 7, 14, 28 (5 doses IM, deltoid muscle) 2. No Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG) needed — since there’s no bleeding or deep wound 3. Observe the dog (if possible): If it’s healthy and alive after 10 days, risk is very low — but vaccination should still continue once started.
Health Tips
🚫 Why Not to Ignore This: Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear. Prevention is easy with timely vaccination. Even if it’s just a torn cloth with saliva contact, that’s enough reason to vaccinate if the dog is unknown or stray. No bite mark, stray dog, clothes torn Start anti-rabies vaccination immediately No visible injury No need for RIG Already washed area Good. Continue observing if possible Local advice Better to follow WHO guidelines, not just verbal reassurance

Dear Practo User thanks for sending across your query. Even without visible injury, a dog bite—especially from a street dog—can pose a rabies risk. It's safest to start post-exposure rabies vaccination. Early action prevents future complications. Book a consult to assess and guide vaccination schedule properly.

No matter what you should get the Anti Rabies vaccine 4 doses on Day 0, 3, 7, 28 of dog bite . If you didn't take , Take as soon as possible. We categorise dog bite based on the wound Yours comes under Category 2 If bleeding occurs it becomes  category 3 Which requires immunoglobulin along with Anti rabies vaccination. So Take ARV immediately based on the schedule I given above.since rabies has no cure, Don't take risk.
