Disc bulge and Sciatica

2021-07-03 18:17:18
I've been facing lower back pain since October 2020. In MRI, I have been diagnosed with disc bulging at L3 L4 L5 and S1. Also, I'm facing Sciatica nerve pain as well on left leg. It's been 18 days now, I've been going for physiotherapy for heat therapy and electrotherapy, but still not resolved. Pls advise what to do. Can a chiropractor resolve this quickly? Or surgery?

You have to start exercise therapy along with electro therapy till pain subsides. When the pain subsides you have to continue only with exercise for 3 months.

Have you been started on an exercise protocol? If not, please ask your practitioner, why.? If you have started doing the exercises, please follow them, it will take time for the symptoms to settle. Do not worry and please do not take decisions in hurry.

Everyone goes through a process of degeneration. U r very young so Ur disc r soft thus Ur goal should be to avoid any further increase in disc bulge. Once the disc protrudes out no one in the world can push it back. Only surgeon can trim it off. At such a young age surgery is not advisable, if Ur condition is not too debilitating. U should focus on posture correction, pain reduction, core muscle strengthening and avoid over tension and tightness in lower back and leg muscles.

In my opinion you consult a senior physiotherapist as the therapy you are undergoing may not be adequate as per your problem .And trigger point release or dry needling therapy can help you. Thanks

Manual therapy which uses spinal mobilisation is gentler and does not stretch the ligament at the end of range. That will help. Look for a manual therapist in your area.
