Hello, I understand your concern
Hyperneb is generally safe, but frequent or unnecessary nebulisation is not recommended for routine colds.
Most coughs and colds in babies are viral and improve on their own. Hyperneb helps loosen mucus but doesn’t cure the cold.
Frequent nebulising can:
• Dry the nose/throat
• Make the baby uncomfortable
• Give parents a false sense that it is “needed”
If the baby has thick mucus, noisy breathing, or blocked nose, saline nebulisation 2–3 times/day for short periods is okay. Avoid using it every few hours unless advised by your doctor.
Next Steps
Nasal saline drops + gentle suction before feeds and sleep
Humidifier/steam in the room (not direct steam)
Breastfeed well / give fluids
Keep baby away from dust, smoke, perfumes
Ensure baby sleeps slightly elevated (not pillows under head, but mattress tilt)
