Around mid cycle, when ovulation is about to happen, cervical mucus changes. Becomes watery and slippery and increases in amount. These changes are for helping sperms get an easy entry into the Uterine cavity. You need a folliculometry scan to see for development of Follicles and document ovulation. And to match cervical mucus changes with the folliculometry findings. This will give a clear idea of when you are actually ovulating.
Also another way to know most fertile period is use of Ovulation predictor kit test.
