Hi. Usually every clinician autoclaves his/her instruments once used. But if you knew that a used instrument was being used on you, you could have stopped him/her.
On the other hand the dentist might have changed the instruments and you might not have noticed (the basic instruments look alike).

HIV/
AIDS. it is possible to acquire Hiv through used instruments. But for that to happen, the patient prior to you should have that infection.. hiv won't magically appear out of thin air.
Hiv is not the ot infection that you need to be concerned about. There are host of other communicable diseases that you can get.
