Ankle fracture

2020-06-17 22:49:51
I had a fracture in the ankle which was opened 3 months back. Now it has been 6 months from the date of injury- my question is that, can I start yoga and running now? Currently the pain and swelling is almost negligible. Thanks

Hello dear You said that 6 months have elapsed since the injury and 3 months since the surgery. Why this time lag? And considering you were operated late i wouldn't recommend you to straight away go for running without seeing your current x-rays and preferably examining your ankle in person. 3 months from surgery is the minimum time before considering walking with full weight bearing and for patients who are operated late, it could be more. Running is a bit of stretching it.
Next Steps
Consult online or preferably in person if based in delhi

6 months is usually the time to have gotten back to pre injury level of activity. However, there are some prerequisites. If you have a very stiff ankle, you would require stretching and gradual return to activity and possibly some physiotherapy. If the fracture pattern required surgery and required something called a syndesmotic screw, that requires to be removed before resuming activity That being said, as your pain and swelling is negligible, if your doctor has cleared you for activity, I see no reason why you shouldn't. All the best
