Ankle and foot injury

Twisted my ankle while playing badminton .It's been over two weeks ,  but I still see slight swelling even after two weeks . Consulted an orthopedic when it happened , I was given some tablets to be taken for 5 days .Wearing an ankle binder and crape for support. Fracture ruled out after x-ray and was told it's  a soft tissue injury .A little concerned with the progress . Therefore ,is MRI or any other scan necessary ? As I want to get back to the sport ASAP , need help.

Any ligament injuries take 3 to 6 weeks to heal. And further 3 to 6 weeks to rehabilitate. Since it is a weight bearing joint takes some time to heal.. so after this time period can have an MRI scan and surgical procedure if needed .however return to active sports particularly competitive level takes at least 3 months before you start practicing

MRI is not really required as I would not suspect a major ligament injury or an occult fracture not visible on plain x-ray. Ligament injuries take time to heal, give it a minimum of 3 weeks rest.
