I am writing to seek professional guidance regarding my elder brother, Mr. Faraz Iqbal, who is 40 years old. He has been struggling with severe alcohol addiction for many years, though the exact duration is unclear.
Our family is deeply concerned about his health and well-being, as he has lost control over his drinking and consumes alcohol daily, often to the point of intoxication. Despite our repeated efforts, he has been unable to stop on his own.

Hey.. For such severe alcohol use in patient treatment will be the best option. In such centres patients are provided with medication as well as counselling to help quit alcohol. One of the most important aspects of quitting is motivation. It is most useful if the person himself wants to quit. Pls look for a govt deaddiction centre near you. Even Aiims delhi has its own deaddiction special hospital. Seek help in person help in this case

The first few days of leaving alcohol can be very physically and mentally difficult for the patient. Especially in a person who has used alcohol for the long term. For some it can be life threatening too...So it is best to do it in a hospital under supervision.

Hello Mr Iqbal ! If a person is addicted to alcohol, but he does not take his daily dose of alcohol, in that case, patient have significant withdrawal symptoms. And these symptoms are main cause that person can't stop using alcohol. So it's good to consult a psychiatrist and have proper detoxification and maintenance treatment that decrease these withdrawal symptoms and reduce person desire to drink alcohol.

Hi. Glad that you reached out. The condition you explained seems like severe Alcohol dependance. The patient as such may not be willing for treatment. However he needs immediate treatment.
He can be brought to a psychiatrist and treatment may be started. Based on the patients level of acceptance medications may be started in the form of tablets or injectables. Most likely patient will require in-patient care. Any underlying psychiatric comorbidity may have to be identified and treated.
Once the patient is stabilised, he may require rehabilitation facility as well. Family support plays a very crucial role in these patients once they are out of rehabilitation.
Patient will also need regular psychiatric follow ups and counselling sessions in order to maintain abstinence.
