It can be managed without surgery , however a knee strengthening exercises program is needed. If you experience instability episodes despite strengthening the knee , then surgery is indicated.

Enjoy your marriage and then choose a time for your surgery if there are symptoms of instability. Do knee related exercises and avoid stairs or sitting at lower heights and sitting for prolonged duration.

ACL surgery is not an urgent surgery unless it is associated with a meniscal tear especially a bucket handle tear . Also associated collateral ligament injuries need to be ruled out. If you have only an isolated ACL tear then I would suggest restriction of activities like hopping , jumping , running . Use of brace and Physiotherapy will help . Once you are done with the function then I would be inclined to recommend surgery . Return to daily activities will take 3 weeks in isolated ACL reconstruction. Return to sports will take 6 months of rehabilitation. Hope this helps
