My Mother is Diagnosed with Epilepsy. And Since then she is taking the medicines daily 2 times in a day morning and before going to bed(about 20 years). The name of medicine is Tegrital 200mg (Novartis). So, 1. I want to know that up to how long she has to take medicines, Do we consult with doctors to take next steps about her problem or just continue same medicine whole life.
2. Sometimes there is shortage of medicines in market. In that case Should she take the alternatives of medicines that work same as the medicine she is taking.
Kindly answer my query to take next necessary steps for my mother.

1. Epilepsy medicines are generally run a course of 3 to 5 years. However this duration can be extended or reduced as per the patient's condition and response to the medication n treatment.
2. You can take alternative of the medications if the same brand is unavailable, the salt for tegrital is carbamazepine and there are tons of medicines available for the same salt.
