If you are located in Bangalore, please come down to my clinic. Persistent adenoid hypertrophy beyond 5years of age must be removed as the Paediatric Sleep Apnoea caused by it will cause permanent stunting of all growth markers as well as chronic otitis media(glue ear)

Adenoids are usually enlarged in children aged 2-7 years.. it is not much to worry about unless your child is symptomatic. This means that is she constantly complaining of nasal obstruction, does she mouth breath mostly, does she snore at night.., does she have daytime sleepiness, are her front teeth protruding with spaces in between them..? If any of these symptoms are present and the adenoids are obstructing more than or about 50% of her airway she needs to start nasal spray - Metaspray nasal spray 2 puffs twice a day for 10 days followed by once a day for next 15 days. If there is an improvement in symptoms gradually taper her from the spray by giving it on alternate days or when she heads episodes of nasal allergy. If the symptoms do not improve significantly with he spray then she might need surgery- Powered Adenoidectomy/ Coblation assisted Adenoidectomy.
