Even when my nieces come to me I'm shooing them away. I am not even speaking to my parents. Physically also it is affecting me. Please help me before it is too late. Well internet addiction is on the rise. It is a good sign that you've acknowledged your problem. The first step is already done. What you can do on your own is limit your time on the internet, set alarms etc. If you are not able to do it, then you can consult a psychiatrist. Since you are from Mumbai, it'll not be difficult to find psychiatrists. I am practicing in Mumbai too, in case you decide on visiting one.
You need to detoxify
Talk about your issues with a mental health professional
Consult with me or any psychologist for therapy online or in person
All the best
What you are talking about is an unfortunate but a very serious problem that we are seeing happening often. Technological advancement has made things easily available and accessible all the time making us fall in to the trap of excessive dependence on technology and or digital media. I understand your problem but for that you have to take certain steps and be determined about following them properly. So first and foremost be aware of your motivation. Do you really want to change this behavior because you believe this is a problematic behavior or because others are telling you so. The reason why I am telling you this because when we want to make a change because 'we' truly believe in changing, the determination is stronger than making a change as others are asking us to do so.
Next Steps
First we have to learn to decrease the amount we spend on the laptop or the medium on which we watch the online streaming videos and series. This can be done when we deliberately keep some time apart from the digital medium we use the most for watching Netflix and so on. Start gradually, like sometime between 30-60 minutes. And after a while we have to increase that time. Meanwhile we have to start engaging in other activities where we do not need to use any electronic gadget. This is just first few steps. There are more things that can be done, all that I can tell you to first make a start and keep the ball rolling. We mental health professionals are always there to help in that regard. Take care.
Health Tips
Consistency is very important. To change a problematic behaviour we have to unlearn few things and learn and or relearn some adaptive behaviors.
