Acne on Left side of face
I am 36 year old male facing acne/pimples only on the left side of my face for quite some time. They are fairly large pimples but are dry and do not ooze any liquid and are red in color. There is slight pain when pressed on some of them. The acne never subsides completely and reemerges periodically and takes a long time to heal. I maintain good hygiene and wash my face regularly with a face wash and mild soaps and also do not apply any cream or moisturizer on a regular basis. Further since I have a desk job I am not exposed to the elements such as sun, air pollutants etc. Please advise on any cream or skin lotion which I can use to eliminate this problem. Till now I have been using Surfaz SN cream on them. It used to effective earlier but now it doesn't make any difference.

Greetings. FIRSTLY PLEASE STOP USING SURFAZ SN CREAM FOR THIS. IT WILL ONLY WORSEN YOUR FACE IN THE LONG RUN. Acne is a chronic problem. You may need a few medications and lifestyle changes for long term improvement. The following would help you : 1. Daily use of gel based sunscreen in day time of SPF 30 applied half hour before sun exposure to prevent darkening of spots. 2. Daily bed time use of retinoid cream will reduce acne and oiliness 3. Antibiotic agents short course- prescribed by dermatologist for controlling out bursts .salicylic acid based or benzoyl peroxide based face wash for oily skin. 4. Evaluation by dermatologist for any other trigger or need for oral retinoids- this will indeed help but should be taken only if necessary and under monitoring. Also salicylic acid Peel if needed 5. Procedures like microneedling rf, fractional lasers or just microneedling for scars are helpful and necessary. Chemical peels for acne and spots. Using an anti fungal shampoo will be of great help in reducing dandruff and also pimples on forehead 6. Kindly read my blog on daily skin care on Practo health feed. Daily fitness work out and loads of fruits and veggies will help loads in improving your skin. You may Send further queries/ pics of lesions on private follow up chat. Hope this helps. Warm regards.

Thanks for the query. Skin care is a daily ritual shaped by age, gender, socioeconomic status and internal health. Skin care needs to be customized based on the presenting complaints. There are different ways to achieve a flawless skin after acne and it needs medical interventions. Acne treatment has multiple stages - to control new breakouts, to clear the sequalae (pigmentation and scars) and to prevent a relapse. If you have active acne lesions, it should be controlled on priority basis. Acne scar and pores can be treated with subcision, dermaroller, fractional CO2 lasers, chemical peels and likewise. Remember combining treatment modalities help to achieve desired results earlier. Your dermatologist will decide a treatment plan for you after a consultation. Apart from active pharmaceutical medicines, a healthy diet and lifestyle is mandatory to achieve results.   Best wishes Dr MK Agarwala
