12 days old baby suffering from diarrhea
Hello doc...
My 12 days old baby girl is suffering from diarrhea and gas for last 3 days... We have consulted through practo ... One pediatrician doc has suggested to give zinc syrup 0.5 ml once a day and colicaid 0.5 ml once a day.
We have also consulted our local pediatrician he has start giving walamycin 2.5 ml thrice a day and enterogermina 2.5 ml twice a day... This course we are started from yesterday but still no improvement...

Hi, it is like normal frequency of stools . If no fever and baby is active and feeding well , no medications are needed

Per day passage of 8- 10 times stool or once in 5-6 days are normal variation for this age .So don't worry if she is passing urine frequently, taking feed properly and active. Stop if some multivitamins are giving to baby for few days.
Zinc drops are safe option.

A 12 day old breastfed baby will not get a stomach infection. Babies at this age may pass stools after every feed, so even stools upto 8 or 10 times a day would be normal. Antibiotics are not advisable.

No medication will help & is not needed also. Just give breastfeeds to your baby. Get a stool test ( stool r/m) done.

12th day baby on breastfeed should nt get infective diarrhea. Wish may be normal change, may go over time. Only zinc will do. If wosen stool test maybe done.
