This note is long overdue but writing this for the awareness and benefit of transgender individuals who may consider Arka (Dr. Muthukumar Jeyapaul) for hormone treatment. As there are very few knowledgeable endocrinologists on transgender health in India, I was accessing hormone therapy under Dr. Muthukumar's supervision as his knowledge on the topic was commendable. For this, I used to travel from Kerala to Chennai quite often which was a strain both financially and physically for me. However, I stopped consulting him after a very dissapointing and traumatic incident. Once, my phone started ringing in his office and since it was a call from the US embassy I asked him if I could quickly answer and tell them that I will call back soon (since the call was regarding my US visa). I heard him say 'okay' and picked up the phone but he started screaming at me. I kept the phone immediately and clarified what happened but he said he did not agree to my request. I apologized thinking maybe I misheard him saying 'okay' but he still kept shouting and speaking rudely to me. He kept addressing me in my dead name after I repeatedly told him what my name is (Something he should have known after 2 years of consulting a patient!). When I told him I have been on fasting since 12 hours and was tired (I usually have breakfast after a blood test at the clinic at every visit, but this time they delayed by blood test hence I couldn't have breakfast), his response was 'so what should I do?' In my experience, what Dr. Muthukumar lacks is compassion and the ability to treat his patients with respect and courtesy. *** **** ** *** ****************** **** *** ******* ******* *** **** *** **** *** ** * ****** ***** *** ** ** **** ****** **** ***** ** **** **** ***** **** ****** best he puts some effort to develop these traits. Not expecting any response/action from the clinic as I addressed the above with him directly and he did not seem to care after which I informed him that I will not be consulting with him anymore!

Doctor Muthukumaran was extremely courteous, polite and helpful with a hint of humour which put me at ease within minutes. He listened patiently and asked the relevant questions.

Highly recommend him.

Before I met the doctor the staffs made sure to file all my previous reports properly and timing fixed so the I didn't have to wait long. The doctor was so pleasant and let me tell all my issues patiently. He then explained me about the treatment. I was thoroughly satisfied with the visit and would highly recommend to anyone.
