Dr. Savitha Prakash

Dr Savitha Prakash, MBBS, PGDip, Fellowship in Diabetology is an experienced diabetes physician who has expertise in all areas of diabetes management, with particular interests in intensive management of type 1 diabetes including insulin pump therapy, and in supporting lifestyle change to manage and reverse type 2 diabetes. She actively promotes self-management and has been closely involved in the development of education programmes for people with diabetes.Dr Prakash qualified in 2001 from Bangalore University with a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). She undertook subsequent specialist training in oncology at the prestigious Bangalore Institute of Oncology. In 2003, she moved to the United Kingdom and has worked extensively in various fields including geriatric medicine, emergency medicine, neuropsychiatric fields, cardiology across the length and breadth of NHS trusts in the UK for 10 years. Her research interest is on perioperative management of diabetes patients undergoing bariatric surgery; and the progression of microvascular complications of diabetes patients following bariatric surgery. Dr Prakash completed her master’s degree in business administration with special interest in holistic medicine and self-management programmes in chronic health conditions. She is a member of the American Diabetic Association.
