I am an engineering student studying at NITK, Mangalore but i come to Bangalore during holidays as my parents stay here. I am a university level basketball player and have been playing for several year I am an engineering student studying at NITK, Mangalore but i come to Bangalore during holidays as my parents stay here. I am a university level basketball player and have been playing for several years, but soon after joining college there was a drastic drop in my stamina and i used to get tired very soon. I assumed it to be simple stamina issues and never bothered to c a doctor. It was during my first year holidays that when i came home and went for general checkup that i got to know i was showing symptoms for anaemia. So my physician referred me to Dr. Gopinath who upon seeing me immediately wrote a bunch of relevant tests to analyse the issue instead of just giving me corrective medicines. Upon receiving the results there were several issues that he pointed out to me which led to the current situation i was facing. The results showed that i had really low Haemoglobin levels which was way below normal level which according to him was severe issue. Both me and my parents were alarmed and we asked for medicines to be prescribed but instead he wrote a couple of more tests because he assumed there might be some other underlying problem which led to this issue. so i underwent a couple of more tests like stool test, urine test and a couple of x rays after which there were parasites found in my stomach. I was admitted for a couple of days to keep track of my vitals and make sure that no permanent damage was done during the period of low Hb level. So the hospital staff used to take my ECG and pulse rate etc. three times a day to reassure my well being. after all the diagnosis i was discharged with a prescription and a list of dos and don'ts to follow as much as i can for speedy recovery. Even though it initially seemed that i was undergoing a lot of tests, but i believe it was for the best otherwise we couldn't have found the underlying issues which cause anaemia. Other major thing he pointed out was that i had stopped eating because of terrible hostel food while i increased the hours i used to play for which was another thing i should have not done. He also suggested that i should cut down on alcohol as much as i can because it would have slowed down my recovery. His appointments were to the point and very informative which made me understand what i did that led to this and reassured my parents that it could be solved totally if proper care was taken. I was prescribed vitamin tablets along with iron pills .. the course of medicines was for 6 months 3 times a day. I was also told a list of things i should try to eat regularly and the things i shouldn't eat in combination like not to drink milk along with iron rich food because milk slows the absorption of iron in the blood stream. all these small inputs from the doctor made my recovery very speedy and i started feeling the difference from the following week when i started my course of medicines. after that i was supposed to meet him after 2 weeks with another blood report to see if the effects of medicines could be seen in numbers as well. and subsequent visits were stretched farther out.. i was also given medicine for stomach parasites that were detected and a bunch of food items i should eat to prevent formation of more in my regular lifestyle.. papaya juice is one of them .. its been 3 months down the stretch and i have been following his guidelines too the point and have been taking my medicines regularly and taking all the precautions possible .. i feel i have already recovered but i have been advised to continue the medicine course for the prescribed time of 6 months.
My stamina is back normal or is more than normal if i could say so .. i feel energetic and dont feel tired the way i used to .. i eat regularly and have started taking nutritional food and fruit juices in my daily lifestyle. i have stopped drinking altogether because i have realised it does not help me in any way. Following all these i feel i am recovering well and i really wanted to share my experience because i want other kids like me to understand they might have an issue if they are facing similar symptoms and should consult a doctor as soon as possible. My Hb level was as low as 5.6 which is way below 15 which is average for a normal adult and according to doctors and research i did such low levels put really high strain on ur heart and can have lasting repurcussions on your health and body . so it is important that we stay alert and take care of our health.
I would like to thank Dr . Gopinath in helping us through my issues and being patient with me and my case. you are truly a good doctor and more importantly a very good person. Your experience and expertise truly is splendid for speaking to a good doctor half the healing in itself because of the confidence it gives you and makes you feel better. Consulting you was one of the best things that could have happened to me.

I recommend you to all my friends and family in case they need any medical attention which i hope they dont need to. Thank You Dr. Gopinath
