I had disc bulge and disc degeneration (L5-S1) for over a decade with multiple episodes of severe back pain. I had developed leg pain over the past six months that became so excruciating that I was unable to stand or walk for more than a few minutes. I am a 31-year-old working woman, and this completely disrupted my personal and professional life. While I consulted several doctors, tried medication and physiotherapy, it was all in vain, until I consulted Dr. Kartik Revanappa and realized the severity of my condition. Dr. Kartik explained that the disc was severely compressing my nerves at the L5-S1 level, and advised for a lumbar decompression surgery to relieve the pressure. One fine morning my wife had major jerk in lower back with severe pain and she was not able to move at all. As first aid, we showed to physician near to our locality, he tried symptomatic treatment, but pain was not coming down at all. We rushed to Apollo Bannerghatta Road in the night under advice of Dr. Manish Samson sir. With initial treatment to reduce the pain, advised to do MRI urgently and through MRI it was discovered that there was a slip disk at L4/L5 causing lumbar nerve compression. As disc was big and causing severe nerve compression, resulting in numbness in leg along with severe pain, there was no option but surgery.

Dr. Manish Sir referred us to Dr. Karthik Sir and informed us that Dr. Karthik Sir is one of the best neuro spine surgeons. Situation was critical as nerve remaining compressed was risky. Considering the situation, without losing time, Dr. Karthik Sir helped us to give his appointment for surgery next days itself. Admission was done on Sunday and Surgery was planned for Monday, before surgery Dr. Karthik sir met us in the ward explained the process to us and gave the complete comfort feeling, in fact he spoke to us in Marathi and made us more comfortable. We met Dr. Karthik sir first time, but the kind of comfort we received was very different. Surgery was done on Monday evening, after surgery, doctor came out of OT and informed us that surgery was successful, and I was extremely relieved, doctor asked me and my daughter to see her in observation ICU. Post surgery, there was lot of personal attention and care provided until she was discharged. Doctor gave us the post discharge plan explained us how to pain will come down gradually each day and how the recovery will progress.
