I am writing a long 2 months post surgery review.Firstly considering lack of technical understanding in the society and families you need to fight a lot for treatments like refractive surgery which is considered as an elective surgery but only the patient themselves know the pain they are carrying with them and how potentially good the surgery can be.Though I had a relatively low myopia (-6 Cylinder), I went for lens implantation, mostly people I know go for Lasik with such power.I had odd powers - myopia in right eye and light hyperopia ( < 0.5 ) in left due to which I had difficulties in depth perception of the image.I was sceptical about procedure as there were not much reviews and also the idea of keeping a foreign body in the eye is something everyone will want to reconsider their decision. I tried researching a lot about the procedure, read complete quora, medium and infact many of the research papers published in medical science journals. Just before the day of the procedure I visited doctor again to validate all my doubts and measured the risk vs gain ratio.Along the whole process two people helped me a lot Mr. Watson and Mrs Amara. They both are gems. Everytime I visited them, they cleared all my doubts answered precisely even tiny technical details and thus I became confident about the procedure.Another doubt that came lately was the controversial articles of ECD loss at a greater rate (this is something which will scare most of us) but the improvements in the lens designs have eliminated these risks. So yes go ahead with the procedure ( why not ).The surgery was relatively quick. Though I came early in the morning and waited my turn to come (it took less than 10mins for the real procedure). You won't feel even a little pain, just a bit of pressure.I am a person of very little patience and hence during the entire course of recovery I panicked like anything. At times I used to call Mrs Amaravati (sometimes late in the evening but she was always helpful)Usually they say that you get to see things clearly just the next day but for me recovery time was a bit high, around 10 days and the vision became clearer day after day. I attained the maximum vision by this time but still it was not comfortable like the vision I used to have earlier. It took a total of around 35 days for my vision to become comfortable.Now I see along the things with an ease, depth perception like I used had never before. excellent reading vision, can focus easily while playing sports, driving etc.Only a little (negligible halos at the night are there which I will adapt soon)overall quality of my life has increased. The vision is far better than I used to have with glasses on. Thanks Dr Umesh and the team.Readers can personally ask me if they have any doubts.

I was skeptical in getting any surgery done to remove my specs in past, it was restricting me in getting fully engaged in sports, gym and other activities which need free moment and body-mind coordination. One day when I broke my spectacles while training in gym, someone suggested to get lasik done at Sankara Eye Hospital, and I must say this advise is one of the most valuable advise I have got, I got my SBK lasik done yesterday without any pain (little discomfort was there but we cannot call them pain) by Dr. Umesh and today I came to hospital, drove myself and have perfect vision. Really happy with services provided by Sankara Hospital and it's all due to Mrs. Amaravathy and Mr. Watson who are optometrist there and made whole process smooth.

I was referred to Dr. Y Umesh once I expressed interest in getting a femto lasik. On our first meeting, he ****** tried to convince me to go for PRK based on my reports, stating that it is the best suited procedure for me, and what in hindsight seems to be his favourite maxim “No pain, no gain”, as the archaic procedure results in soreness of eyes for almost a week and requires at least a couple of months for complete recovery of vision, with the advantage that you need not get a corneal flap created. When I insisted on going for femto-lasik based on personal concerns, he quickly got irritated and dismissed me saying that both the procedures can be ‘legally recommended’ by him, and in the end, it was my choice. But he seemed visibly upset, and also somewhat wary, which made me uneasy as well.

In every conversation we had hence, he was brash and unapologetically rude, and did not even eschew from taunting me to not choose his recommendation even minutes before the procedure. He did not as much as meet my parents who were accompanying me that day, let alone brief them about the procedure and address their concerns. Going on with the procedure, I was still scared of him performing it on me, but having seen good reviews on the internet for him, I convinced myself that only his behaviour is unprofessional, not his practices. Ignoring his irritated tone of voice even when under the knife (symbolic), I tried to follow his the best I could. After a few minutes, It was a great relief to hear him say the right eye was successfully operated on. He is a professional afterall, I thought. Little had I anticipated what was to follow. Midway through the left eye, he announced that, and I quote “my nose is tilted and is obstructing the equipment”. Now no one who has ever seen me can say there is any visible deformity my nose has. If, in case, their lasik equipment is sensitive even to such invisible defects, should it not be a prerequisite for them to check for them, especially when the result of not doing so could be complications during the procedure? In any case, he told me he would need to re-adjust the equipment due to this ‘flaw’ of mine, and continued to bickering about my nose till the procedure ended. For me, at least for that time, all this meant was just a lot more pressure on my eye, a lot more of anesthesia being dropped in my eye, and an ever more irritated voice in the background, with the frequent interlude of the helpers rushing for things more hastily than before. Somehow, the procedure was completed, and the words my ears were yearning for, “both eyes were operated on successfully” were uttered.

Once out of the operating room, I was told to follow him. I introduced him to my parents waiting outside, to whom he gave no respect, or even a proper addressing for that matter. He told them everything went fine with a little complication in my left eye while still walking, and the three of us following. He stopped to say that I better sleep the day off and meet him the next day before handing us over to a nurse and waltzing off. On retiring to my room, I saw that while both my eyes are red and watery, my left eye has deep red blood clots all over. I was terrified and panic-struck, but in the state I was left in, had no choice but to wait for the next day.

The next morning, after the staff diligently tested me and produced a report of my successfully corrected vision error, when we met Dr.Umesh, he had little to say in his dismissive tone, except that due to my crooked nose, the left eye has suffered a bit, and that everything else seemed fine.
