Dr. Patra's Clinic, Salt Lake

My wife (S Sen) visited Mrs Patra for pregnancy checkups during Oct 2016-Jan 2017. We read a lot of reviews on her in internet and selected her out of best of the doctors in Kolkata. This was my wife's first pregnancy and I wanted everything to be perfect.

During the pregnancy my wife had some complexities which Mrs Patra handled well and we both can’t thank enough for saving our first child from being miscarriaged.

That said, I would not focus on her medical skillset for this review.

What made us switch to another Gynaecologist is her behavior and extreme professionalism.

We are educated and working for reputed MNCs. We do understand if things explained to us and we deserve to be explained as we have experienced with doctors outside India. Mrs Patra never explains things to patients. NOTHING, I repeat, NOTHING can be put as a justification like "Doctors professionalism restricts us from sharing etc..." In India people are not highly educated and Doctors do abstract things while sharing - I understand that part but hello! you aren't dealing with un-educated people here. If asked you get an answer like "lets see". **** **** ***** ** ** ** *** ***** **** **** *** *** ****** ******* * ***** ** ******* ******** ** *********** *** ************ You need to understand that during pregnancy related complexities women become very tensed of the situation. A few comforting words from a reputed Gyno can work like magic. *** **** **** ***** *** ******

Patients normally get a window of 01:00-2:30 mins with her. Whatever questions you have you need to ask her within that window. During our visits we felt like queuing at the Railway counter for tickets. You need to wait for an hour or two, all you get is that 1-2 mins window and then you are thrown out of the window. Yes thrown out! A few times I remember while finishing up (my wife was still trying to ask a few questions and I was putting documents in my backpack) she said "could you pls arrange your documents outside" and showed us the door by hand gesture.

Every single time I visited her with my wife, while driving back home, my wife used to cry. I used to comfort her saying she is such a great doctor, so much reputations - cant be wrong. Guess what, one day we switched to a another doc just for test and we found her a way better "person". She might not be a better gynaecologist than Mrs Patra but way better as a human being. And who do you need Mrs Patra? Human or Money?

The process for getting appointments is not at all acceptable.

I took an appointment over phone,then on the day of appointment I went early 9am ( doctor starts fron 10:30am) and did an entry on the log book kept on the clinic. After 2 hrs when it was my turn I was said that my booking is not confirmed and Doctor will not check. When I reuested Dr Sharmishtha Patra that there was some glitch in the booking system and my name was not there she replied exactly " Dont wast e my time " .I was shocked with such a rude behaviour .I had to leave the clinic immediately.

Furthermore on 10th feb I did and appointment with the same doctor and got my wife check up.But when I asked for the consultation fee receipt she said tht the receipt book is finished. After me there were 15 more patients .I even checked with other patients they aslo say that she tells the same for receipts. We need these receipts so that we can claim it This also a bad practice.

** ********** ***** ** *** ** *** **** ************ *** ************* ** ******** My wife and I went to her first when she was around 4 months pregnant. We immediately realised that it was the best decision taken. Her care for the patient is exceptional, something that immediately stood out given our experience with some other doctors. Right through my wife's pregnancy, she guided us at every step. Finally on Nov 8, we got our gift from God, all thanks to our wonderful doctor. We would recommend her any day to anyone. Thank you doctor for everything you did for us.

Wait time is something that we may or may not complain coz when it’s our turn we want the doctor to spend more time with us getting all our question answered. Unfortunately we do not think the same when someone else is inside. I am in USA since last 4 years and carrying my second baby wish I could have Dr. Sharmishtha Patra again.

I had a wonderful experience ...Doctor was very patient, gentel and professional.Only one suggestion I have .It would b better if patients and their attendants can be made to sit in a more comfortable and cooler place... The open varanda with few plastic chairs is not sufficient..Many male attendants were standing outside under tree shade in this extreme heat...Also there should be some arrangement of cold water to drink...As the water patients carry becomes very hot by the time their turn comes....Rest it would be great if patients get the chance to the the doctor on the time mentioned in their appointment slip..... Waiting in the hot open veranda makes it difficult for expecting mother's....Thanks...

Dr Sharmishtha Patra is the best gynecologist not only in Kolkata but in West Bengal too. She takes care of all patient's under her consultation as her friend and family members. She is really an asset for Apollo as well as for our society. She prefers to use "We" rather "I", from which it implies that the problem is not for the patient's family members but for her also and she herself is also a member of it. My wife delivered a baby boy under her kind consultation. Thank you very much doctor for your motherly caring and serving the society as well. May your life be charged with the grandeur of God !!!

We went to her chamber after seeing all the reviews in the internet. We went thrice. First two days she was ok, but may be its our bad luck, on the third day she was not able to concentrate at all. She tried to perform a test which according to me was not logical. At last she wrote the exactly same prescription as the last time suggesting the same tests. no conclusive answers to our queries even after three visits and various tests suggested by her. ******* *** *** ********** May be for the delivery patients she is dependable but she needs to put more effort for complicated cases.Later I called her, she did not take the call and messaged me that she will call back to answer my queries but unfortunately no answer till now.

*** ** *** **** ************ ** ***** The care and delicacy with which she handled our case is the best anyone could wish for. We went for my mother's Vaginal Hysterectomy + pelvic floor repair(PFR) and the surgery was performed on time without any complications. It's been one and half month since and she is recovering well without any post operative issues. I would highly recommend her to my friends and family if they are going through any obstetrical and gynecological problem.

Clinic was too small with 8 to 9 chairs to sit only. The drawback is this that if you book your appointment they will write the name of the patient only. But the check up will be done only reaching to the clinic on first come first serve basis. Therefore it is of no use to make an appointment before reaching. Just you may call the doctor's helper who can only inform you that Doctor is in the city or not. Doctor checks only 22 patients in a day. So better to reach first around 7:30 am in the morning in order to get the first check of the day. Rest all are first come and first serve basis. Checkup starts at 8:30 am till the last 22nd Patient.

waiting time is approximately 2 hours if not more. unprofessional appointment system. money receipt is not given. doctor's behaviour is rude and arrogant. doesn't describe the problem and process of diagnosis. won't feel like visiting this doctor for next time.
