Anxiety is real. And it creeps up on you slowly, so slow that you barely realize that you are deep in its clutches.
I was going through a lot of somatic issues since a year & I realized it cant just be mere misfortune that all these supposedly minor problems like acidity, insomnia, fungal issues were happening to me back to back. I realized that these were psycho-somatic problems & self diagnosed myself with Anxiety with a basic google search. I went to a popular psychiatrist in Vashi. He diagnosed me with Generalized Anxiety disorder and gave me a SSRI pill. Within 10 days I felt much better but soon I started having heart palpitations. It was so severe that I was scared to bits & decided post enduring it for a couple of days to go to the doc. Though he said that it is a possible rare side effect of the pill, he was convinced it was not so in my case & merely my disorder causing the palpitation. But who else knows your body better than yourself? I was not prone to palpitations ever in my life till this day & I mildly but affirmatively forward put this point in front of the doc. Very reluctantly he suggested that I could stop the pill for 2 days and see if the heart throbbing went & if not, it was my anxiety. I consulted my uncle who is a doctor too and he suggested I wait it out atleast 5-6 days for the medicine to completely drain out of my system & rejected the idea of a 2 day wait only. Indeed, 5-6 days later my palpitations became 0. I felt better overall & felt averse of popping anti depressant pills ever again. I took to yoga & meditation and I was back on track. But within 20 days of remission, I encountered a severe stressor in my life and I was back where I had started. The anxiety had come back! I went on practo for other doctors who could help me this time & came across Dr. Nahid Dave (a detailed post about her on qoura infact was the tipping point for me). I went ahead with my gut instinct despite me almost choosing to go to another senior doctor in Vashi. I count that moment as my good fortune & apt decision. This is because in psychiatry, Its not merely about diagnosis & experience but also about being compassionate about your patients worries, mindful of the overall situation & objective listeners who know what to listen & what to discard when we patients tend to vent out a plethora of worries (who else can we speak too afterall?). Dr. Dave asked me to take an MCMI test to be able to judge my personality better. As she started working ahead on me soon she too realised that I could not tolerate SSRI, SNRI class of medicines (we went through a few different med switches and each time my body reacted distastefully to the external serotonin boost). She said my last bet was the old skool Tricyclic antidepressant which also works for anxiety though not as swiftly as the SSRI, SNRI class. Luckily, this worked & I am better than before and on the road to recovery. The difference between the previous experience & with Dr. Dave was instead of treating my side effect complaints as the rambling of an anxious mind, she used my understanding and ability to describe my problem in depth as a tool to swiftly come to a judgement & move forward on the next alternative.
Dr. Dave has a warm feminine concern she exudes and hears us out well. She is young which is a big plus point as she connects better, is not piss bored of hearing people whine about their problems like most psychiatrist become post 12 years of practise and is technologically & medically updated and sound. I'm convinced that beyond knowing her subject inside out (being a gold medalist medical student), she is also a truly genuine and good human being. In my judgement she is very sharp & finds what she needs between your words, the things which will eventually heal you. * ***** *** **** *** ** *** **** ****** ****** *** **** **** ** **** * we are fortunate that she spares time to make tri weekly visits to the Vashi clinic besides her other commitments in Mumbai. She is a no-brainer recommendation from my end in Navi Mumbai hands down.
Also, I have been taking therapy from her clinics psychologist Mr. Sridhar Kulkarni. I would highly recommend him too for therapy. Its tough to comeby good therapists in Mumbai as it is but Mr. Sridhar has a very good way of objectively judging you & grasping your personality and accordingly working with you ahead. Also, the unique point being Dr. Dave & Mr. Sridhar work closely and keep sharing notes on your progress and observations (makes a big difference as they remember your case & are not just interested in having a long queue in their waiting rooms eventually asking you to repeat your problems in every visit to help them jog their memory).
