Description
Bupron XL 150 Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Bupropion. It is used in the treatment of depression, seasonal affective disorder (depression associated with a change in season, usually during late autumn and winter), and to help in smoking cessation. Bupron XL 150 Tablet works by increasing the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that helps in regulating mood, thus helping to alleviate the symptoms of depression. The mechanism of action in treating smoking addiction is not fully understood. Bupron XL 150 Tablet cause some common side effects like insomnia (difficulty sleeping), difficulty concentrating, sweating, headache, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, abdominal pain, anxiety, agitation, tremor (shaking movement), and constipation. These side effects usually subside with time. However, if they persist or worsen, consult your doctor for further assistance. Avoid driving vehicles or operating heavy machines while taking this medication as it can cause dizziness and blurred vision. Bupron XL 150 Tablet may be taken with or without food, once at the same time each day. Take it at the same time each day for ease of remembering. Your doctor will determine the dose and duration of treatment based on your clinical condition. Avoid taking more or less than the recommended dose. Do not stop taking Bupron XL 150 Tablet abruptly, as this may cause a worsening of your symptoms. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you take (especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors like Selegiline, Linezolid, etc.) in order to avoid interaction, which may cause serious side effects. Bupron XL 150 Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it or if you have seizures (abnormal electrical activity of the brain resulting in jerking movements and loss of consciousness) or eating disorders. Inform your doctor if you have or have had head injuries, high blood pressure, angle-closure glaucoma (an eye condition that develops when the structure inside the eye that allows the draining of the fluid from the eye gets blocked, causing an increase in fluid pressure inside the eyes), or liver, kidney, or heart problems before starting the treatment with this medicine. Bupron XL 150 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to the lack of safety and efficacy data. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Bupron XL 150 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have or have had eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa (a serious psychological condition characterised by extreme restriction of calorie intake due to intense fear of weight gain) or bulimia (an eating disorder where a person binges on food and then follows extreme methods to get rid of it to avoid weight gain). This medicine may cause seizures in such cases.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs)

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are medications that are used to treat depression. Bupron XL 150 Tablet should be avoided if you are taking MAOIs due to the increased risk of serious and life-threatening side effects. Avoid taking this medicine for at least 14 days after the discontinuation of MAOIs.

Epilepsy (Seizures)

Seizure is a central nervous system condition in which abnormal electrical signals in the brain are generated, resulting in involuntary movements and loss of consciousness. Bupron XL 150 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have seizures as it may further trigger a seizure attack and worsen your condition. It should be avoided if you use sedatives (medicines that slow down the brain activity and makes you sleepy) and you stop using them abruptly, due to the increased risk of seizures.

Angle closure glaucoma

Angle-closure glaucoma is a condition that develops when the drainage angle (a structure inside the eye that allows the draining of the fluid from the eye) gets blocked. This may cause an increase in fluid pressure inside the eyes and lead to vision loss. Bupron XL 150 Tablet should be used with caution if you have angle-closure glaucoma as this medicine may cause an increase in fluid pressure within the eyes and further worsen your condition.

Heart attack

Bupron XL 150 Tablet should be taken with caution if you have a history of heart attack (blood supply to the heart is blocked). Follow all the instructions given by your doctor.

Seizure disorder

Bupron XL 150 Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have conditions that may increase the risk of seizures such as severe head injury, CNS tumour, CNS infection, brain damage, excessive use of or abrupt withdrawal of alcohol, etc., due to the increased risk of worsening of the condition. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Do not miss the dose of Bupron XL 150 Tablet. In case you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is time for the next dose, then skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Do not take more than the prescribed dose of Bupron XL 150 Tablet. Seek emergency medical treatment in case of an overdose.
