Description
Bupron SR 150 Tablet is a prescription medicine containing Bupropion. It is used in the treatment of depression, seasonal affective disorder (depression associated with a change in season, usually during late autumn and winter), and to help in smoking cessation. Bupron SR 150 Tablet works by increasing the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that helps in regulating mood, thus helping to alleviate the symptoms of depression. The mechanism of action in treating smoking addiction is not fully understood. Bupron SR 150 Tablet may cause common side effects like sleep problems, difficulty concentrating, sweating, headache, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, abdominal pain, anxiety, agitation, tremor, constipation, weight loss, etc. Inform your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Bupron SR 150 Tablet may cause dizziness and sleepiness, so do not drive vehicles or operate heavy machines when taking this medicine. Avoid consuming alcohol during treatment with this medicine as it may increase the risk of side effects. Bupron SR 150 Tablet may be taken with or without food. Take it at the same time each day for ease of remembering. Your doctor will determine the dose and duration of treatment based on your clinical condition. Avoid taking more or less than the recommended dose. Do not stop taking Bupron SR 150 Tablet abruptly, as this may cause a worsening of your symptoms. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you take (especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors like Selegiline, Linezolid, etc.) in order to avoid interaction, which may cause serious side effects. Bupron SR 150 Tablet may not be suitable for everyone. It should be avoided if you have seizures (a condition that causes uncontrolled body movement due to an electrical disturbance in the brain), eating disorders, or if you have recently stopped using sedatives (medications that slow down brain activity and makes you sleepy). Inform your doctor if you have or have had head injuries, high blood pressure, angle-closure glaucoma (an eye condition that develops when the structure inside the eye that allows the draining of the fluid from the eye gets blocked, causing an increase in fluid pressure inside the eyes), or liver, kidney, or heart problems before starting the treatment with this medicine. Bupron SR 150 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age due to the lack of safety and efficacy data. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding before taking this medicine.

Allergy

Avoid taking this medicine for at least 14 days after the discontinuation of MAOIs.

Anorexia nervosa and Bulimia

Bupron SR 150 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have or have had eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa (a serious psychological condition characterised by extreme restriction of calorie intake due to intense fear of weight gain) or bulimia (an eating disorder where a person binges on food and then follows extreme methods to get rid of it to avoid weight gain). This medicine may cause seizures in such cases.

Epilepsy (Seizures)

Seizure is a central nervous system condition in which abnormal electrical signals in the brain are generated, resulting in involuntary movements and loss of consciousness. Bupron SR 150 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have seizures as it may further trigger a seizure attack and worsen your condition. It should be avoided if you use sedatives (medicines that slow down the brain activity and makes you sleepy) and you stop using them abruptly, due to the increased risk of seizures.

Hypertension

Bupron SR 150 Tablet may increase the blood pressure levels. Therefore it should be used with caution if you have hypertension (high blood pressure) as it may further worsen your condition. Monitor your blood pressure regularly while you are taking this medicine.

Seizure disorder

Bupron SR 150 Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have conditions that may increase the risk of seizures such as severe head injury, CNS tumour, CNS infection, brain damage, excessive use of or abrupt withdrawal of alcohol, etc., due to the increased risk of worsening of the condition. Consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Bupron SR 150 Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Contact your doctor in case of an overdose of Bupron SR 150 Tablet.

Liver Disease

Angle Closure Glaucoma

Angle-closure glaucoma is a condition that develops when the drainage angle (a structure inside the eye that allows the draining of the fluid from the eye) gets blocked. This may cause an increase in fluid pressure inside the eyes and lead to vision loss. Bupron SR 150 Tablet should be used with caution if you have angle-closure glaucoma as this medicine may cause an increase in fluid pressure within the eyes and further worsen your condition.

Psychosis

Bupron SR 150 Tablet should be used with caution as it may cause confusion, hallucinations, psychosis (a mental health condition characterised by loss of contact with reality), etc. Consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Bipolar disorder

Bupron SR 150 Tablet may cause activation of mania or hypomania. Hence it should be used with caution if you have a family history of mania (abnormally elevated mood and hyperactivity), hypomania (less serve form of mania with energy levels higher than usual), or bipolar disorder (extreme mood changes with emotional highs and lows).

Urine test for Amphetamines

Report the use of Bupron SR 150 Tablet to the doctor before undergoing a urine test for the screening of Amphetamines (central nervous system stimulant medicine). A false-positive result may be obtained if this test is performed while taking this medicine.
Take Bupron SR 150 Tablet with or without food. Do not break, chew, or crush the tablet. Swallow as a whole with plenty of water. Do not take larger or smaller amounts than prescribed as it may cause altered effects of this medicine or increased risk of side effects. Consult your doctor if you experience side effects that persist or worsen. The use of Bupron SR 150 Tablet may cause weight changes.
