Description

Glycozide-MP Tablet is a combination of Metformin, Gliclazide, and Pioglitazone. It is an anti-diabetic medicine used as a third-line medicine for the treatment of type II diabetes in adults. It works by increasing insulin release and improving your body's response to insulin (a hormone that enables your body to use sugar). However, due to serious side effects, this combination is banned in India. It also prevents the breakdown of carbohydrates to glucose (sugar) and thereby lowers your blood sugar levels.  Glycozide-MP Tablet may result in low blood sugar levels and you may feel hungry, irritable, confused, or anxious. It is always recommended to eat a fast-acting source of sugar (fruit juice, candy, raisins, etc.) to quickly treat these symptoms. Other common side effects include headaches, dizziness, nausea, diarrhoea, etc. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or if they become severe. Glycozide-MP Tablet should be taken exactly as advised by your doctor. Take it at the same time every day to maintain a constant level of this medicine in your body. Do not skip a dose or discontinue the treatment as it may cause an increase in your blood sugar levels.  Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it. Inform your doctor if you have kidney, liver, or heart problems before beginning the treatment. This medicine is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are breastfeeding.

What is it prescribed for?

Type II Diabetes Mellitus

Type 2 Diabetes is a condition that causes an increase in blood sugar levels. In type 2 diabetes, the insulin produced by your body cannot be used properly by the cells to convert glucose into energy. Glycozide-MP Tablet is used as a third-line treatment for type II diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, single agents, and second-line therapy with two drugs do not result in adequate blood glucose control.

Allergy

Avoid taking Glycozide-MP Tablet if you are allergic to it. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of your face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Severe Kidney disease

Kidney impairment is the loss of kidney function. Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended if you have severe kidney problems as it may cause complications such as lactic acidosis (acid buildup in the blood).

Metabolic Acidosis

Metabolic acidosis is characterized by high levels of acids in your blood. The symptoms include thirst, frequent urination, vomiting, abdominal pain, weakness, muscle cramps, etc. Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended if you have metabolic acidosis as this medicine may worsen your condition.

Severe liver disease

Liver impairment is the loss of liver function. Because of the increased risk of severe side effects, Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended if you have liver problems.

Type 1 Diabetes mellitus

Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin. Symptoms include increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger, fatigue, and blurred vision. Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus.

Pregnancy

Due to a lack of sufficient safety and efficacy data, Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended for use in pregnancy. If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Breast-feeding

Glycozide-MP Tablet may passes into breastmilk. This medicine is not recommended while breastfeeding due to the increased risk of hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar levels) in your infant. If you are breastfeeding, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

General warnings

Hypoglycemia

Glycozide-MP Tablet may cause hypoglycaemia. Regular monitoring of your blood sugar levels is recommended. Your doctor may advise you to carry a sugar candy to counteract the effects of low blood sugar levels when necessary.

Surgery

Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended to be used during surgery due to the increased risk of lactic acidosis (high levels of lactic acid in the blood). If you are taking this medicine, inform your doctor before undergoing any surgery. Your doctor may suggest you discontinue the treatment before surgery.

Ovulation problems

Glycozide-MP Tablet should be used with caution in premenopausal patients due to the increased chances of ovulation. Adequate contraceptive measures are recommended to avoid an unplanned pregnancy.

Use in children

Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below 18 years of age due to a lack of safety and efficacy data.

Driving or operating machines

Glycozide-MP Tablet may cause low blood sugar levels and dizziness which may affect your mental alertness. Avoid driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience these symptoms after taking this medicine.

Missed Dose

Do not skip any dose of Glycozide-MP Tablet. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.

Overdose

Do not take excess dose than prescribed by your doctor. Contact your doctor in case of an overdose with Glycozide-MP Tablet.

Hemolytic Anemia/G6PD Deficiency

Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency is a genetic condition in which your red blood cells break down when exposed to certain medicines, infections, or stress. Glycozide-MP Tablet is not advised if you have this condition because it can lead to haemolytic anaemia (low red blood cell count).

Cardiovascular disease

Glycozide-MP Tablet should be used with caution if you have any pre-existing heart problems due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Close monitoring of your heart function and vital signs is recommended.

Bladder cancer

Glycozide-MP Tablet is not recommended for use if you have active bladder cancer as this may increase the risk of serious adverse effects. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered under your doctor's supervision.

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Glycozide-MP Tablet should be used with caution if you have vitamin B12 deficiency. This medicine interferes with the absorption of Vitamin B12 in your body. Consult your doctor if you are taking these medications together.

How it works

Glycozide-MP Tablet is a combination medicine of Metformin, Gliclazide, and Pioglitazone. Metformin works by improving the body’s response to insulin and decreasing glucose (sugar) production in the liver. This helps in lowering the increased blood sugar levels. It works by increasing the release of insulin from your pancreas (a part of your digestive system that produces insulin and other vital enzymes). Thus, it lowers your blood sugar levels. Pioglitazone decreases insulin resistance without causing any strain on the pancreas and reduces the production of glucose from the liver.
