Description
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Perindopril. It is used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and stable coronary artery disease (a condition where the blood flow to the heart is blocked or restricted). This medicine works by relaxing your blood vessels and enables smooth blood flow, thus controls your blood pressure. It also reduces the risk of heart attack or stroke by making it easier for your heart to pump blood throughout your body.
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet shows some common side effects like swelling in your ankles or feet (oedema), dizziness, back pain, cough, decreased blood pressure, etc. These side effects are temporary and will go away with time. However, if you have persistent vomiting or diarrhoea, as well as excessive sweating, you should see a doctor.
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet should be taken before your meal or as advised by your doctor. Take this medicine at the same time every day to avoid any missed dose. Even if you feel better or your blood pressure appears to be under control, do not stop taking it. Abrupt discontinuation may lead to side effects or a sudden increase in your blood pressure. This medicine is safe for long-term use.
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet is only recommended if you are 18 years or above. Inform your doctor if you have any history of kidney, liver, and heart problems, or any other condition. This medicine is not recommended if you are pregnant as it may cause harm to your unborn foetus, especially during the second and third trimesters. Hypertension refers to an increase in blood pressure. It occurs due to the narrowing of the blood vessels. Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet relaxes and widens your blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to circulate blood throughout your body. Thus, it controls your blood pressure.
Stable Coronary Artery Disease
Stable coronary artery disease is a condition in which the blood flow to the heart is restricted or blocked due to which the heart does not get enough oxygen. Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet helps in increasing the blood flow to your heart by widening the narrowed blood vessels. Thus, it is used in the treatment of stable coronary artery disease.

Kidney diseases
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of kidney problems. This medicine is excreted via the kidney and its metabolites may get accumulated in your body if there is kidney impairment.
Liver diseases
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of liver problems due to the increased risk of liver failure. Get your liver function tests regularly done while you are on this medication. Inform your doctor if you develop any symptoms of jaundice increased level of bilirubin, a blood pigment that leads to yellow skin discolouration.
Driving and operating machines
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet may affect your driving ability as it can lead to dizziness or weakness due to low blood pressure. After taking this medication, avoid performing activities that require high mental alertness such as driving vehicles or operating machines.
Missed Dose
If you forgot to take the dose of Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet at a given time, then take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Bone marrow suppression
Bone marrow suppression is a condition in which your bone marrow (a substance found in the bone that produces blood cells) activity is reduced which further leads to a decrease in blood cell count. If you are diagnosed with such a condition, take Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet with caution. This medicine causes bone marrow suppression and the risk is high if you have kidney impairment.

Congestive heart failure
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition in which the heart is unable to pump blood efficiently. Take caution if you are having severe CHF. If Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet is taken in such conditions, it can lead to serious effects on your kidney which may lead to oliguria (low urine output) and kidney failure. Close monitoring of your kidney and heart condition may be necessary.
Hemodaialysis
Hemodialysis is a treatment in which a machine is used to filter the waste from the blood when the kidney fails to do so. If you are undergoing hemodialysis, take Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet with caution. This medicine may lead to anaphylactoid reactions (life-threatening allergic reactions) in such conditions.
Hyperkalemia
Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet may significantly increase the potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia). This may cause serious adverse effects such as irregular heartbeats. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor immediately. Avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements) while taking medicine. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on your clinical condition.
Food interactions
Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet as grapefruit juice can increase the level of this medicine in your blood. This could lead to excessive lowering of blood pressure or worsen side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet, etc.
It is recommended to avoid a high potassium diet during treatment with Coversyl-AM 8/10 Tablet due to the increased risk of serious side effects. Unless recommended by your doctor, do not take salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking this medicine. Your doctor/dietitian will suggest an appropriate diet for you to avoid a high intake of potassium.
