Description
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet is a combination of Amlodipine and Perindopril. It is used for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and stable coronary artery disease (a condition where the blood flow to the heart is blocked or restricted). This medicine works by relaxing your blood vessels which eases blood flow easily and controls your blood pressure. This will also reduce the risk of heart attack or a stroke by making it easier for your heart to pump blood throughout your body.
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet shows side effects like cough, decreased blood pressure, dizziness, back pain, diarrhoea, vomiting, and swelling in your ankles or feet. These side effects are temporary and will go away with time.
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet should be taken before your meal. Take this medicine at the same time every day to avoid any missed dose. Even if you feel better or your blood pressure appears to be under control, do not stop taking it. Abrupt discontinuation may lead to side effects or a sudden increase in your blood pressure. This medicine is safe for long-term use.
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have any history of kidney, liver, and heart problems or any other condition. If you are pregnant, this medicine is not recommended as it might harm your unborn foetus, especially if taken during the second and third trimesters.

What is it prescribed for?
Hypertension
Hypertension is an increase in blood pressure. It occurs due to the narrowing of the blood vessels. Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet relaxes and widens your blood vessels, making it easier for your heart to circulate blood throughout your body. Thus, it controls blood pressure.
Stable Coronary Artery Disease
Stable coronary artery disease is a condition in which the blood flow to the heart is restricted or blocked due to which the heart does not get enough oxygen. Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet helps in increasing the blood flow to your heart by widening the narrowed blood vessels. Thus, it helps to treat stable coronary artery disease.

Allergy

Aliskiren is a medicine used to control blood pressure. Do not use Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet if you are taking aliskiren. Concomitant use of these medicines may lead to serious side effects such as low blood pressure and high potassium levels in your blood. The risk is higher if you have a kidney problem or diabetes (high blood sugar level).
Sacubitril
Sacubitril is a medicine used in the treatment of chronic heart failure. It is recommended that you should not take Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet within 36 hours before or after taking a medicine that contains sacubitril as it may lead to angioedema (swelling of the face, eye, lips, etc.).

Hypotension

During therapy with this medication, you should check your blood pressure regularly. Depending on your clinical condition, the doctor may make appropriate dose changes.
Kidney diseases
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of kidney problems. This medicine is excreted via the kidney and may accumulate in your body if there is kidney impairment.
Liver diseases
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet should be used with caution if you have a history of liver problems due to the increased risk of liver failure. Your doctor may suggest tests to regularly monitor your liver functions while you are on this medication. Inform your doctor if you develop any symptoms of jaundice [increased level of bilirubin (blood pigment) in the blood that leads to yellow skin discolouration].
Driving and Operating machines
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet may cause dizziness or weakness and affect your driving ability. Hence, avoid performing any activities that require high mental alertness such as driving or operating machines unless you know how this medicine affects you.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose of Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet at a given time, take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
Overdose
Never take more than the prescribed dose of Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet. If you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of this medicine, seek immediate medical attention for further guidance.

Congestive heart failure
Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition in which your heart is unable to pump blood efficiently. Take Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet with caution if you have congestive heart failure as it may cause oliguria (low urine output) and kidney failure. Hemodaialysis
Hemodialysis is a treatment in which a machine is used to filter the waste from the blood when the kidney fails to do so. If you are undergoing hemodialysis, take Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet with caution. This medicine may lead to anaphylactoid reactions (life-threatening allergic reactions) in such conditions.
Hyperkalemia
Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet may significantly increase the potassium levels in your blood (hyperkalemia). This may cause serious side effects such as irregular heartbeats. Report any unusual symptoms to your doctor immediately. Avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements) while taking this medicine. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on your clinical condition.
Food interactions
Consumption of grapefruit juice is not recommended during treatment with Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet as grapefruit juice can increase the absorption of this medicine in your body. This could lead to excessive lowering of your blood pressure or worsen side effects such as dizziness, headache, swelling of hands and feet, etc.
Avoid a high potassium diet during treatment with Coversyl-AM 4/5 Tablet due to the increased risk of serious side effects. Unless recommended by your doctor, avoid taking salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking this medicine. Your doctor/dietitian will suggest an appropriate diet to avoid a high intake of potassium.
