Scoliosis is a condition where the spine loses its natural curvature and curves towards the side. This may be observed before the onset of puberty during the growth spurt. Scoliosis is generally not a harmful condition, but it may get severe with further growth. The condition may also be attributed to other causes such as cerebral palsy and muscle dystrophy.

Common symptoms of scoliosis include uneven shoulders, one side of the torso may appear uneven, shoulder blades are not properly aligned. The condition may worsen with age.

The cause of scoliosis is not completely known. It could be due to genetic factors as the condition prevails among members of the same family.

Bad posture does not necessarily cause scoliosis. However, bad posture may cause a few spine-related issues which are usually reversible.

Scoliosis can be corrected through various methods such as wearing a brace or by exercise and stretching. Specific exercises are recommended for individuals with scoliosis by physiotherapists.
