1. What are the early signs of Pregnancy?
The signs of pregnancy at the early stage may vary from woman to woman. Although missed periods is the most common sign of pregnancy, there are other symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, swollen and tender breasts and increased frequency of urination. Some uncommon signs of early stages of pregnancy include mood swings, constipation, abdominal cramping, bloating and food cravings or aversions.
2. What are the tests which need to be done to confirm pregnancy?
A majority of women do a pregnancy test at home using a pregnancy kit. However, doctors recommend two tests using blood as well as urine sample for the confirmation of pregnancy. Both these tests measure the level of hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in the blood and urine sample. The placenta produces this hormone after the embryo attaches itself to the uterus.

4. What is the duration of pregnancy?
The normal duration of pregnancy is always counted as 40 weeks, but a baby stays in the uterus for 38 weeks. A baby born between 37 to 42 weeks of the estimated due date is considered to be full term because the due date of pregnancy is calculated based on the last period the woman had before conception and many women are unaware of the exact dates of the last period.
5. What should be the intake of supplements during pregnancy?
Consult your doctor to find the exact amount of supplements that you should take during pregnancy and also to avoid the overdose of supplements. Women are recommended to take 400 micrograms of folic acid per day before conceiving till they reach the age of 12 weeks of pregnancy. Vitamin D supplementation too is recommended.
