My oral health had never been better since I was a child. I had been running dentists after dentists but all in vain. I had flap surgeries twice, done root canal treatment in several teeth, used all the mouth washes my dentists suggested, brushed twice a day but I ended up with bleeding gums with severe infection, bad breath, extremely painful chewing, extreme sensitivity and almost all teeth mobile due to heavy bone loss. My destists suggested to extract all teeth and have dentures. 'Dentures'? I'm too young to have a glass of water beside my bed and a set of teeth stiring at me from inside. I then opted for a full mouth rehabilitation with basal implants, as it was the only option left for me and contacted Dr.Prasanth Pillai at Smile Centre, Kochi, India. Dr.Prasant Pillai is a well experienced, German trained Maxillofacial surgeon with more than10,000 successful implant surgeries to his credit. More over he is compassionate, humane and always down to earth, the qualities a doctor must have along with his/her professional skills. On the day of my first appointment, he explained the procedure clearly, answered my concerns and queries patiently. An overall health check up had been done prior to surgery to see if I was fit for the procedure. After assessing my positive health report, I had been given antibiotics for a week to get rid of gum infections. On 9th Dec 2020, the doctor started the procedure and on 14th Dec 2020 I sat up with a full mouth basal implant and fixed prosthesis. The surgery was somewhat painless with local anethesia. During the treatment days(4-5 days), I had been advised to take light foods like porridge, soup, bread, fruit juices etc..Surprisingly, there is no down time after the procedure and the patients can eat and resume their life routine immediately after fixing the prosthesis. The doctor first fixes the prosthesis temporarily because the implants take almost a year to integrate with the bone. It is a better way to treat issues if any which may occur post surgery as the doctor can easily remove the prosthesis and refix it( only the doctor can remove it not the patient nor anybody else). Also, there is a possible chance for the gums to recede during the healing time. So after a year, when the gums heal and the implants and bones completely integrate, the doctor fixes the prosthesis permanently. It then gives a better look and feeling. This is my 3rd week since the procedure and I'm perfectly alright without any complications so far. A big fat thanks to Dr.Prasant Pillai and his team at Smile Centre, India. The clinic is quite clean and well equipped. When basal dental implant is pricey in other part of the globe, you can get it done at Smile Centre, India, affordably. Not only that, Smile Centre at Kochi, India is a SALVE for your every oral SORE. I would definitely be back with my final results and updates within a year after my prosthesis are permanently fixed.
