MPhil - Mental Health & Social Psychology
Sonal Mathur has completed MPhil (2012) and PhD (2016) in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS, Bengaluru. She is passionate about making therapy more accessible and towards this effort, She worked on not only providing clinical services in private practice but also designing brief therapy packages, along with training and supervision plans for budding therapists. She holds vast experience in working with conditions related to anxiety, emotion regulation, personality, family and couple issues as well as neuropsychology and severe Psychiatric illnesses. Her therapy style is based on third-wave therapies including Mindfulness-based therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), along with traditional CBT styles, Interpersonal therapy and Systemic Therapy. As therapy is a highly collaborative process, my treatment approach is dependent on the individual needs and preferences of the clients through shared-decision-making.
My psychologist is very patient *** ************** She listens very carefully to my problems. During our sessions, first she asks me to discuss my thoughts and in the latter half of the session we discuss she offers ways in which those problems can be managed. There is no fear of judgement in my mind. She offers realistic ways and not those quick and magical remedies which actually don't have an effect. I would definitely recommend Dr. Sonal to other people like my self who are struggling with mental health issues and those want to take charge of their lives.
I feel grateful to find a doctor like Sonal. As a person, I have often struggled at relationships, say, something like setting boundaries. Sonal shared some exercises with me to learn about boundaries, and asked me to practice them. When I continued to struggle, she helped me break it down. She presented me with situations, from my personal life , where I could pratice them in a certain manner. That is really helpful. It gave me an idea how I can do so own my own and I need not to be awkward about it.
