Growth plates are at the ends of long bones.
X-ray of knee or wrist should be the answer.
-but at 19 yrs. age all the growth plates are closed.

In Female, Growth plate closes soon after attaining menarche(Periods). MRI is the Investigation to know status of growth plates. In your Friend's case..It's no use..
