White patch on tongue

Can anyone please tell me what is this white patch on left side of tongue...i have attached a photo...

It seems to be infection of tongue papillae due to poor oral hygiene

Next Steps

Maintain oral hygeine use hexidine mouth wash after every meal take multivitamins for 15 days Drink plenty of water Avoid spicy food for few days

White tongue is usually caused when bacteria, debris (like food and sugar) and dead cells get trapped between the papillae on the surface of your tongue. These string-like papillae then grow large and swell up, sometimes becoming inflamed. This creates the white patch you see on your tongue.
