An NCV study helps your Neurosurgeon/Neurologist determine if there is a disorder of your peripheral nerves that alters signal conduction through your nervous system. In your case it would appear that your doctor is evaluating you for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The test is non-invasive and uses small painless electrical shocks to trigger nerve impulses. In most cases this is followed by an EMG which involves placing a very small needle in your muscles to see if there is abnormal muscle activity.
