There is small and negligible difference between SR and XL. So don’t bother. You can take twice daily too. Good luck

Hi Basically SR tablet has its peak action with in 2-4 hours and gradually weans off and have to take twice daily to have effect throughout the day Whereas CL tablet will have effect for approximately 24 hours through gradual release of bupropion So once daily is preferred Why 300mg once is preferred over 150 mg twice daily is because A. Less side effects like insomnia if taken in the morning B. Easier to take once a day and will have better adherence to treatment C. Less fluctuations of dosage as its action sustains for approximately 24 hrs
Next Steps
If you are not troubled by insomnia u can take 150 mg twice daily because your comfort is more important than pharmacokinetics
Health Tips

The idea is for convenience. Some patients may find it inconvenient to take it twice a day due to personal reasons and so doctors may prescribe a tablet once a day to ensure that the patient take the medicine. So to answer you question- yes you can take it twice a day if it's not causing you any issue.

Bupropion SR and XL differ mainly in how the medication is released in the body. SR (Sustained Release) is usually taken twice daily because it releases the drug over a shorter duration. XL (Extended Release) is designed to be taken once daily, as it releases the medication slowly over 24 hours, giving more stable blood levels and better convenience. Even if the total daily dose looks similar (e.g., 300 mg), XL is not meant to be taken twice a day. Taking XL 150 mg twice daily can increase the risk of side effects, especially seizures in rare cases, because of higher peak levels.
Next Steps
Please follow the dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor and do not change between SR and XL formulations on your own. If you feel your current medication is not effective, consult your doctor or you could reach out to me as well.
