UC n cancer risk and hemoglobin deficien
My mother was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2023. She underwent partial colon surgery and received 8 cycles of CAPOX chemotherapy. The following year, due to hemoglobin deficiency, a colonoscopy was done — and stomal ulcer and ulcerative colitis (UC) were detected. She has been under treatment for the past year. But again, her hemoglobin has dropped from 11 to 9.8 and is increasing very slowly. My questions: 1. Can this type of ulcerative colitis turn into cancer? 2. Can this type of ulcerative colitis cause hemoglobin to fluctuate even during treatment?

Ulcerative colitis can turn into cancer which in your mother case is probably primary cancer is also due to underlying UC For UC usually mesocol is given , UC itself can cause bleed and low hemoglobin can further be aggravated by salicylates
