Ear wax or fluid comes with pus like smell(sometimes) but just for 3 4 sec then smell disappears/ evaporates... Then wax has no smell. Sometimes ear feels heavier around. I was tensed about bad smell and went to dr. 3 4 times regarding smell but every time he said everything is okey, nothing to worry . But I have same fear of infection again.

Wax , fluid and pus are different entities , wax is normal , fluid and pus signify infection , after surgery these should stop , sometimes a secondary fungal infection can cause such symptoms even when the ear drum is healed so get it checked by another ENT specialist if you are not comfortable with your operating surgeon but do not ignore it
