I'm a fairly healthy teenager who suffers from asthma, but I caught on to what has been going on for weeks. I noticed that when I consume water, usually an hour after waking up, it puts pressure on my chest and it hurts to breathe. It will sometimes hurt my rib cage and sternum. It also happens when I consume food an hour prior to working out.

Hi. I understand your concern s. You will need to undergo a detailed examination and investigation like pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis as well as to assess severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same.
