Treadmill test is done in the presence of a Cardiologist. He will first examine you, especially your BP and heart. He will ensure that you have enough cardiac reserve to withstand undue stress and strain. After that all the leads (wires which are used to record ECG) will be fixed at the appropriate places and you will have continuous ECG recording during your TMT. Your BP will also be recorded continuously. The platform of Treadmill is flat to start but it will be given a tilt every 2-3 minutes to 10, 15, 20 degrees so that you get a feeling that you are running up a hill. The speed of Treadmill will also be increased gradually, starting from 2 km per hour , to go to 10-12 km per hour.
At any stage if you feel uncomfortable you can signal the technician to stop the machine. It will be stopped immediately. Similarity if the Cardiologist feels that your BP is rising too much or your heart is showing some abnormalities the Treadmill will be stopped.
So all precautions are taken. Don't worry.
